You were never meant to look like anyone else.

In a world constantly trying to sell us new versions of ourselves—new skin, new hair, new faces—it can be easy to forget how beautiful we already are. We’re told to contour this, fix that, smooth what makes us unique. But natural beauty isn’t something that needs correcting. It’s something we need to learn to embrace. You were born with the features that are meant for your face, that itself is beautiful.

One thing I’ve learned from moving from Canada to Mexico is how important it is to limit comparison. In Canada, I felt the need to always try my best to look as close to perfect as I possibly could, I would straighten my hair everyday and do makeup everyday as a 13 year old to look “put together.” But here, I’ve seen more of a relaxed, effortless beauty that comes from embracing who you are, I’ve seen the beauty in natural hair and bare faces. Not to say you should not put effort in your appearance, but you should not rely on hiding your uniqueness to feel presentable. Moving reminded me that beauty can be soft, real, and personal. That you don’t have to change your face to feel confident in it.

Your real skin. Your natural hair. Your bare, untouched features, aren’t things to console, although it can be difficult to embrace your natural features in a world where everybody aims to look the same , wanting to achieve this idea of perfection like having a tiny nose and big lips.

But the pressure to change ourselves is everywhere—especially on social media and trending shows such as Love Island, where almost every person you see appears as flawless. We start to feel like we need lip filler, lash extensions, flawless skin, or salon-styled hair just to look “presentable.” But what we forget is that many influencers and reality stars have access to luxury beauty services, professional editing, and treatments most people do not have. It sends a message: that lips should be bigger, noses smaller, skin smoother, and hair straighter, this results in what has been labeled as “Instagram face” where every body seems to have the same features. Giving us the wrong idea that our natural features are simply imperfections or flaws rather than what sets you apart from looking like everyone else. And after hours of watching or scrolling, that message starts to sink in.

Think about nature. The sky doesn’t smooth out its clouds. Trees grow crooked, flowers bloom unevenly, and the ocean changes moods every hour. Nothing in nature tries to correct itself—and still, we call it beautiful. So why should that make you any different?

Here’s the truth: you will always look your best when you enhance your natural features—not when you change them. Confidence doesn’t come from looking like someone else. It comes from choosing to show up as yourself and liking what you see.

Wearing your natural hair with pride. Letting your skin breathe. Embracing your freckles, your features, your texture—none of this should feel intimidating. But for many of us, it does—because we’ve been taught that our natural selves need fixing. Naturally the longer you go without putting heat on your hair or fondation on your skin, you will begin to see the beauty in natural beauty. Your skin will start to glow your hair will be able to shine without you damaging your natural self, and you will thrive inside and out.
